High Point Market Trends & Recap

High Point Market is a large furniture trade show that introduces the latest home furnishing trends in furniture, lighting, and accessories. The event is open to the trade only and takes place twice a year in April and October. The market brings in 75,000 attendees total, with over 40,000 interior designers and buyers coming to visit the 2,000 exhibitors that show in over 11 million square feet of showroom space that is spread out throughout downtown High Point, NC.

With this much showroom space. it’s impossible to see every building and exhibitor. But I made it to about 40 showrooms in several buildings and took a ton of photos. I was excited to attend the market to spot furniture and decor trends to better support my clients and readers of my blog.

2023 Fall Market Trends

There seemed to be two distinct color trends that I continued to see as I toured market. The designs were either inspired by the Modern Organic look with lots of pale neutrals and soft palettes or the colors were very bold. In both cases, there were often a variety of pink tones mixed in, although it leaned earthy pink. In my opinion, there was a lot of influence from the 2023 Sherwin William Color of the Year, Redend Point. There were a lot of 70’s inspired looks with the fabrics, textures and shapes in many of these vignettes.

Muted Nature Inspired Colors

The continuation of the Modern Organic look heavily influenced many of the showrooms I visited. The look seems to be getting even softer though with the cognac color becoming more muted and in some cases replaced by pinker tones. I loved seeing the backdrop often include color instead of the all white walls which originally accompanied this trend.

Lighting

Bubble light chandeliers were all over market. There were lots of large statement chandeliers. The string lights also made quite the statement and appeared to be inspired from luxe strings of pearls.

Furniture Statement Pieces

A few of the showrooms I visited were really unique and many of the furniture pieces truly were statement pieces that almost become like art themselves. Many were very customizable where we can adjust wood species, stain colors and sizes and they can become the perfect statement pieces in client’s homes.

American Made & Sustainability

While I wouldn’t necessarily say that American Made products were a trend at market, it was a reoccurring theme as I visited showrooms and attended seminars. There was a fantastic seminar featuring Ben & Erin Napier from the show Home Town on HGTV where they discussed at length the importance of sourcing American made products and partnering with American companies. I visited sofa vendors who make their sofas in the US including Virginia and Ohio and high quality hardwood furniture manufacturers from Pennsylvania and Ohio. With all of these vendors, we can customize the finished product in so many ways for my client’s projects. To me, sourcing American made furniture is one way to bring sustainable pieces in your home. These pieces are often higher quality, so they will last for many more years than cheap furniture. They also travel less mileage to get to your home.

I hope you enjoyed this market recap. High Point is such a great place to see trends and meet with vendors, but for me one of the best parts was having the opportunity to meet some of my designer friends from throughout the country who I zoom with regularly.
